Double-homicide in Southeast halts decline in District killings

D.C. police have identified the two men who died overnight in a triple-shooting in Southeast Washington.

Killed were 19-year-old Anthony Chase and 27-year-old Eric Leeper, both of Southeast D.C. The men are the District’s 47th and 48th homicide victims in 2013, the same number as of this time last year. Before Wednesday night’s bloodshed, the District has been on a pace to break last year’s mark for fewest homicides since the mid 60s.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police officers were patrolling the 300 block of Ridge Road SE when they heard several gunshots, and found three adult male shooting victims.

Chase was found in the 100 block of Ridge Road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene. Police found Leepers and another victim nearby and emergency crews rushed them to a nearby hospital, where Leeper died from the bullet injuries. The third man was expected to recover from the shooting.
