Police said the suspect forced his way into the business and into the office where he was confronted by the owner and shot. The injured suspect ran, and the owner immediately called 911.

The suspect got into vehicle and drove away, but lost control and crashed the vehicle at the intersection of Virginia Manor Road and Muirkirk Road. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but was expected to live.

Charges are pending against the suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Deryck Anthony Nedd, of Adelphi, police said.

Detectives are investigating whether he is linked to other burglaries in the county. He remains in the hospital in critical condition.

After the investigation is complete, the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will screen the case regarding the actions of the owner.
