A Prince George’s County Police officer shot and killed a man after a foot chase in in Beltsville early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Around 2 a.m., a person at the Lighthouse at Twin Lakes Apartments in the 3800 block of Twin Lakes Drive, called 911 and told the dispatcher they could hear a woman screaming, “Get off of me.”
Once on scene, one of the patrol officers jumped two fences and a drainage ditch to reach the victim.
As the patrol officer approached her location, the suspect fled. The patrol officer chased the man for about one-quarter mile in the dark near a wood line. When the patrol officer caught up to him, the suspect was approaching a fence.
The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect refused to obey multiple commands from the patrol officer, police said Fearing for his life, the patrol officer discharged his weapon, police said.
Responding officers found the female victim outside bleeding and saw the male suspect running away.
The officer in the shooting was a 7-year veteran. No weapon was found at the scene. The female victim was treated at the scene .
